Antioxidant potential of Acai juice
A study in twelve healthy fasted human volunteers demonstrated that blood antioxidant capacity was increased within two hours after consumption of a commercial açaí juice beverage.
As a dietary supplement
The açaí berry has been marketed as a dietary supplement supplied in the form of tablets, juice, smoothies, yogurt, instant drink powders, and whole fruit.
Marketers of these products have made claims that açaí and its antioxidant qualities provide a variety of health benefits, none of which has scientific confirmation to date.
Sources state that: “Acaí juice has only middling levels of antioxidants; less than that of Concord grape, blueberry, and black cherry juices, but more than cranberry, orange, and apple juices.”
Another source states that: “The acai fruit pulp has a very high antioxidant capacity with even more antioxidant content than cranberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, or blueberry.”
However another source states: ”There is no scientific evidence that acaí consumption affects body weight or could promote weight loss.”
Although acai is touted in some weight loss products, few studies have tested the benefit of acai in promoting weight loss.
Research does support eating a diet rich in antioxidants and that berries and other fruits are a key part of any healthy diet promoting weight loss, but whether there is something special about acai’s ability to help lose weight is debatable.
Warning Problems with Free Samples!
During the process of signing up for the Free sample, some consumers have unknowingly enrolled in a monthly diet and fitness consultation service, at a hefty monthly charge or agreed (unknowingly) to receiving the product on a monthly basis at high cost.
Some companies offering these Free samples state that customers were to fault for not reading the fine print, in which the terms were clearly expressed.
Customers are given two weeks to cancel the service before being shipped with a cost related product when they thought they had only agreed to the ‘free’ sample.
